Volunteering

At Marryatville Primary School, we value the partnership between our school, our families and the wider community. Volunteers give students more learning opportunities, help our programs and events run, and help make our school a warm and welcoming place. Whether you can give an hour a term or an afternoon each week, your help makes a real difference.

Ways you can get involved

  • Classroom and learning support: listening to students read, helping with small-group activities, and supporting teachers in class
  • Library helper: shelving, covering books and helping at library sessions
  • Sausage sizzle: helping prepare and serve food for students
  • After school sports: coaching, managing or helping with teams
  • Music and performing arts: supporting concerts, performances and instrumental music events
  • Excursions: going along as an extra adult to support staff and students
  • Special events: helping with sports days, concerts, celebrations and community events
  • Parents and Friends: supporting fundraising and community-building activities
  • Governing Council and committees: helping shape school policy, planning and direction
  • Garden and environment projects: working-bee days and sustainability initiatives

Department for Education volunteer requirements

Everyone who volunteers regularly at our school must meet the Department for Education volunteer requirements before they begin:

  1. Working with Children Check (WWCC): hold a current WWCC and give the school your Screening Reference Number (SRN).
  2. RRHAN-EC training: complete the online Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care training, and give a copy of your certificate to the Front Office.
  3. Signing in: every time you’re on site as a volunteer, sign in at the Front Office and wear a visitor or volunteer badge.

Getting your Working with Children Check

A volunteer WWCC is free, and we encourage all parents and carers who would like to help to apply. The school can lodge the request for you. Just email your full name, date of birth and preferred email address to dl.0249_info@schools.sa.edu.au.

For more information about volunteering, the online training, or your WWCC, please contact the Front Office.

All volunteers must follow Marryatville Primary School’s site procedures and policies, as well as the Department for Education volunteer policy.

For more information about volunteering in South Australian public schools, visit the Department for Education – Volunteers page.
